If you read my previous post you know that my Grandfather just celebrated his 98th birthday. What I didn't share was the ride to and from the happy celebration. I ride a motorcycle (as often as I can). Since I have the good fortune of living in Southern California, I get a lot more winter riding days in than most of the country. Well, after a couple days of much needed rain, I took advantage of a bright, cloudless day to ride out for my visit to the family. On the way there I noticed a fabric store going out of business. |

In honor of the man that nurtured the love of fishing in my family, I felt it only right to start this post with a shout out to my Grandfather who turned 98 yesterday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAMPA!!! I'm pretty sure this picture is from the early 50's. The marlin were definitely biting that day in Mazatlan. My Grandfather would sometimes hang around with some unsavory fellows. |

Attention All Fly Tiers!!! Lower your auto deductible to save money on your fly tying materials. This gruesome photo is from the Onion. Today's youth just make me sad. Is nothing sacred from gang tagging? (Wait, is that where my dyed deer hair comes from?) I leave you with a resounding, "Oh, deer."

People use the term friend pretty loosely these days. Where I live we take it for granted that when someone refers to a "friend" they can be referring to their closest friend or someone they just met while waiting in line at Starbucks. Social networking sites like Facebook just add to the confusion. I've heard it said that a good friend will bail you out of jail, but a great friend will be sitting there next to you saying, "That was fun!" Well, that's clever if you're young, but as you get older you appreciate the "Great" friend that bails you out of jail and says, "What the hell were you thinking, Smacktard!" |
