Sometimes, I really think the best way to beat this economic crunch is to bury your head in the sand. Most people think this cliche makes reference to ostriches and their strange habit of plunging their heads into the ground when frightened. Well, Ostriches are actually quite aggressive beasts, truth be told. So, upon no further research and with no facts to back it up, I believe it to mean one should go fishing.
I fish when I'm happy and when I'm sad and the results are pretty consistent. Fish or no fish, I feel right with the world.
Well, I turned off my tv some time ago. That is, I turned off the news. Between global warning and global financial meltdown I started losing sleep. Now, I know I'm not alone. I'm here to tell you the answer is clear. Go fishing.
So, it saddened me to read that Woody Woodard, CEO of R.L. Winston Rods, arguably some of the finest rods on the market, announced the company was laying off production employees. Sales are down, and next year's orders are anticipated to decline as well, so I guess it comes as no surprise. Like everywhere else, our little crisis is hitting hard in Twin Bridges, Montana.
So, my fellow fly anglers, I implore you to do your part and follow my lead. Let's go fish... fly fish!
