The app allows you to dial in a month, state and river. Once you've done that just touch the "Get Hatch Chart" button and you will see what Nymphs, Emergers and Adults are hatching there in that month. The designers are relying on fly fishermen to supply most of the photos, so at this point, the app is a little light on pictures. The pictures that are there are excellent. Right now, the photos are limited to naturals, and I personally think it would be helpful to add pictures of the imitations as well. I think adding that in the future will contribute much appeal to the fly tyer in many of us. If you do submit a photo to them and they add it to the app, they will kindly offer up a photo credit too.
Right now, many of the rivers and off season hatches are missing, and they are really looking for fishermen around the country to help add their knowledge to the Hatch database. I still think this is a great app with a lot of potential. Nothing will take the place of the knowledge and service that a fly shop has to offer, and hopefully most of those shops will weather the storm that is our current economic crisis. But, it's nice to have something that gives you a little heads up so that when you walk into that fly shop you have a little base knowledge of what is going on and what questions to ask.
They have a lite version for free, but that only covers Oregon rivers. The full version is a buck and well worth it in my opinion.

I love my iphone and I've been waiting for a fly fishing app for some time. I always imagined the first fly fishing app would be a game that would compete with the other fishing games. Maybe you've played them. If you use a spinning rod or chuck bait those games just might help you pass the time. I was bored by them very quickly and had hoped someone might dream up an app that might cater to my fly fishing desires. Cory Pratt and Brisk Studios have come up with a much more functional fly fishing app that has potential for all of us techie fly slingers.
