The Partridge and Green fly is a great searching, soft hackle, wet fly pattern. You can play with the body on this by using other colors; orange and yellow are also very popular. I love the green because of how effective it is in simulating a caddis pupa. Strikes from eager trout can be deadly! Fish these flies using standard wet fly techniques. Trout love them.

You can also hang this below a dry fly or an indicator. When you see Caddis on the water or on the foliage around you, this can also be effective near the bottom to look like an emerging caddis. Have fun with this classic fly fishing fly.
INSTRUCTIONS HOOK: Mustad 3906 / TMC 3769 THREAD: Olive BODY: Green Silk Floss THORAX: Hare's Ear (Optional) HACKLE: Gray Partridge (Brown Partridge is an option)
Begin your thread wraps about an eye length from the hook eye. Tie in your floss and wrap your thread over it to nearly the bend of the hook. Wrap the tread about 2/3 of the way back to the hook eye. Wrap your floss evenly (slowly over wrap to build a taper if desired). Dub on a small amount of dubbing loosely to keep it buggy. Tie in your hackle and give it 1- 4 wraps forward. Tie it off and trim the excess. Create a neat head. Don't forget to have 2-4 thread wraps backwards to shape the hackle back. Whip finish and apply head cement. Catch some pigs!
