I have read a few places that furled leaders are the way to go. I was wondering what everyone else thought. I have been using Rio leaders for 5 years now and wont use anything else, but after reading about the furled leaders, wondering if i should change over. What do you think?

First off, I have to say that I'm exactly like you and I have used Rio knotless tapered leaders exclusively for nearly 10 years. I find it real easy and convenient to pick up the three packs in the sizes I need and use them as I need them.

I started looking into furled leaders earlier this year and I swore I would give them a try. From what I have read, just about everyone who goes that route switches for good. Now, I'm all about getting the best for less.

It seems to me the furled leaders are inexpensive enough and easy to find from a reputable person - most of the people I see selling them make them themselves by hand. I understand they last substantially longer than standard leaders... which is huge.

You've got me thinking I need search some out.

I would also love to hear from anyone who may have made the swich.

I've never used them either. I know that depending on what materials are used in their construction you'll get different results. The ones with flurocarbon sink, monofiliment floats better and fly tying thread adds durablity if I remember correctly.

I've wondered if you are supposed to swap out leaders for when you are nymphing or dry fly fishing. I'd like to know that too.

i never swap out my leaders when going from nymphing to dries. I just stick with usually a 4x or 5x, then if i switch to dries, i just add some smaller tippet.
