Product Review: Venture Fly Reels Made by: G Loomis These days, everyone is trying to maximize their dollar. As I've mentioned in other articles, it has been a hard life lesson to learn "You Get What You Pay For." Now, I still look for a deal, but the quality of the product is just as important as the bottom line purchase price. In fly fishing, faulty equipment equals lost fish. The larger the fish, the more critical your fly reel is for the task. At $100, the Venture fly reel by G. Loomis is the perfect reel for the budget minded angler. It is inexpensive, but not cheap.

Product Review: Tie-Fast Knot Tyer Made By: Sierra Stream & Mountain I recently attended the Fly Fishing Expo as it made its way to my neck of the woods. One of the exhibitors there was Tie-Fast. Now I've seen this tool for years. I've noticed it from the corner of my eye on shelves and racks in fly fishing shops and larger retailers and always ignored it. I just assumed it was another one of those gadgets that maybe did something cool, but certainly would only take up precious space and ultimately find itself sitting neglected and unused in the back of a drawer (No fly fishing gear will ever makes its way to the trash bin - that would be a sin). I assumed wrong. It was the basket of shiny tools sitting front and center that got me to approach the Tie-Fast booth at the show, otherwise I would have kept on walking. I'm very glad I stopped. This little tool will now sit upfront in my chest pack, never to feel unloved. |

Product Review: Messenger Creel and 'Nook Sack Made by: Recycled Waders My friends at Recycled Waders recently sent a little care package in the mail. They had read my thoughts on their company in my blog post and asked that I take a first hand look at a couple of their products. I don't think anyone would argue that the idea of recycling makes perfect sense. Take something that is used, break it down, make a new one, rinse and repeat. Who wouldn't want to get on board? Especially conservation minded fly fishermen. |

Product Review: Regal Rotary C-Clamp Vise Made by: Regal Enterprises So, like a good consumer, come late December I start trying to figure out what I'm going to gift to myself for weathering another holiday season. At one point, I started thinking of replacing my fly tying vise. You see, when winter comes, it's harder for w to get away and go fly fishing. What I do instead is set up my fly tying station and get busy. |

Product Review: Simms Guide Wading Boot Made By: Simms I've always felt that the flaw with some product reviews is that they focus on brand new products. Field testing is great, but the long term life of a product, particularly a fly fishing product, is generally guess work. I've always thought that a follow up further down the road would be a more reliable testament to the quality and longevity of a product. |
